While most sneakers on the market disconnect you from Earth’s natural energy, grounding sneakers (a.k.a. earthing sneakers) are designed to allow the passage of Earth’s electron flow into the body while offering the same protection against injury and uncomfortable temps as regular sneakers.
As grounding shoe enthusiasts, we’ve tried numerous grounding sneaker brands and share our top recommendations below…because they’re the very best!

FIVE LINES OF GROUNDING SNEAKERS FOR WOMEN & MEN
SNEAKERS - Featuring sustainable bamboo knit uppers, these lightweight, breathable grounded sneakers compliment any active or casual outfit. Generous cushioning and grippy, rugged tread provide support and stability for long days on your feet.
Three unisex styles available: Navy, White and Black. These grounding sneakers are wider and have thicker tread than the women’s lace up sneakers shown below. They also tend to sell out quickly.
2. LACE-UPS - These jogger style Pamela grounding sneakers are slightly narrower for a snugger fit. They feature less rugged tread than Harmony 783 sneakers yet with lush cushioning for ultimate daily comfort.
Sustainably made with recycled plastic uppers, the White and White and Gold lace ups are waterproof! For those who like a touch of glam, the Platinums are woven with shimmery, metallic thread which sparkles in sunlight; the Platimums can also appear champagne or gold colored, depending on lighting conditions.
3. WALKERS - Our favorite line of Harmony 783 grounding shoes, the Walkers are casually elegant while offering unparalleled comfort. Featuring a streamlined tennis shoe design, these grounding sneakers have padded memory foam in the arches and heels, and all styles (except the Emerson Knits) are lined with soft leather. Leather, velvet, suede or knit styles are available - all of them in women’s sizes and four also in men’s.
The Charlottes are also pre-treated with NeverWet® to repel water, as are the two Emerson Knit Walkers. Who says fashion and versatility can’t toe the same line?
4. Trail Shoes - These rugged sneaks keep you comfy and stable on all your hiking adventures…with thick tread on the outsoles for grip, protective toe caps, and uppers with eco-mesh for breathability.
Uppers are either nubuck leather that’s pre-treated for water repulsion or pre-oiled leather. Blue and gray style comes with two sets of laces, one being elastic speed lacing.
5. High Tops - Last but not least, Harmony 783 also makes two styles of high-top grounding sneakers. Both have luxurious, quilted suede uppers with convenient side zippers for ease of entry and exit, and the Gold Creme style is also pre-treated to repel water.
Both high top styles are also fully lined with soft leather and sole-cushioned for ultimate comfort. Two lace styles come with each pair.
HARMONY 783 GROUNDING SOCKS
We prefer to wear our Harmony 783 grounding sneakers without socks - they’re that comfortable. However, when temps drop, socks are a must!
While many regular socks will allow Earth energy to penetrate the feet, you really need to sweat in them for optimal conduction. Grounding socks, which are woven with conductive silver threading, are the solution! Learn more here>
Harmony 783 also offers grounding socks with merino wool and organic cotton blend options.
GROUNDING SNEAKERS: OUR REVIEWS
GROUNDZ - BIOS & JEANS CLAY COPPERS
“Right out of the box I was impressed with my [Midnight] GROUNDZ BIOS. They were sharp to look at it, lightweight, and with a cork insole, I couldn't wait to try them on. My first soiree was a 10,000-step walk in the Black Forest of Germany. They felt quick on the feet, tight enough to navigate rocks and tree stumps, and made me feel like jogging along the river. I did get a slight blister from that first test drive, but after that it was no longer an issue. Now I reach for them for any occasion...streets of Manhattan, the gym, but mostly on stone paths in Greece. Very impressed with this new cool shoe from Groundz!"
- Step Sinatra
“I was skeptical about the BIOS when I first learned of them because I thought, ‘why fix what ain’t broken?’ I had been wearing the heck out of my Jeans COPPERS sneakers - around town, on vacation and even in my home. I really enjoy the soft COPPERS sneakers - after a few wears, they start fitting like a smooth, leather glove.
Well, BRAVO, Groundz…you outdid yourselves with BIOS. My stone white/olive pair is now a go-to, especially for urban excursions. I’m impressed with how lightweight and grippy these sneaks are, and I love the cushiony cork footbed. I’ve walked and hiked many miles in them and not a single blister…I’m really digging barefoot design right now. Awesome sneakers!”
BAHÉ - REVIVE (BAREFOOT DESIGN)
“I love these running shoes - they are so comfortable...almost like slippers! They seem to run a bit big, but fit well. I dig the flat sole, but also that they have some padding. Wide toe box for sure! I feel like running Forrest Gump style in them. I come home and forget to take them off, they are so roomy. Am now on my second and third pairs (I had to get one in another color)!
-Step Sinatra (shown in picture with Bahé founders, Alex and Kishan)
“The Revive runners are super comfy and wipe down easily...Nature is a dirty girl! I’ve worn them over miles of terrain with and without the removable inner sole and prefer them without. For a while I even started to take up running again - inspired by Bahé’s commitment to green exercise and grounding. While that trend didn’t last, I still love walking in them - they’re really comfy, even without socks. They do run a little big, so I suggest half-sizing down.”
-March Sinatra Blake
HARMONY 783 WALKERS, SNEAKERS & LACE UPS
“When it comes to Harmony783 Walkers, I could write a page on how much I like them...In the last few years, I have ripped through three pairs of these shoes! And I keep ordering more.
Made with quality leather that smells like real leather should, they are charming yet sophisticated enough to wear out to almost any occasion. The comfort is a 10 and my feet feel great after a super long walk. The laces will need to me changed if you use them a lot, but it’s worth it to keep them going for another 1,000 miles.”
- Step Sinatra
“Ditto on the Walkers - I have them in Brown Leather. They were a little snug at first, but after a few days of breaking them in, these cushy leather shoes are now among my favorites. I bought my husband a pair of Black Leather Walkers, and he now opts for them most days, for work and family outings. I’m on year two with mine, and they’re still in good shape and feel great.
I also enjoy wearing Platinum Knit Lace Ups when a silver mood strikes, and am on my fourth pair of Lace-Ups. The fit is super comfy with a soft, cushiony insole. Our mom models the black sneakers in the picture and says they’re ultra comfortable.”

FAQ ABOUT GROUNDING SNEAKERS
What are grounding sneakers?
Grounding sneakers (also known as earthing sneakers) are sneakers with conductive soles that permit the passage of Earth’s natural surface energy into the body - as if the wearer were barefoot. Because most regular sneakers have rubber and/or plastic soles, they disconnect / insulate wearers from Earth’s natural flow of electrons. Grounding sneakers are specifically designed to solve this problem.

How do grounding sneakers work?
All grounding sneakers contain conductive elements like carbon, copper, silver and/or stainless steel in the soles. These conductive elements connected with each other so that ground energy can travel through all the sole layers into the feet.
The outer sole, for example, usually contains carbonized rubber which connects with conductive metal stitching in the inner sole layers. When you’re standing on a conductive surface like grass or dirt, the energy from the Earth can pass through the sole via the carbonized rubber, then travel through each layer of stitching. When the feet are in contact with the innermost layer of metal stitching, they can absorb that energy. All Harmony 783 and Bahé grounding sneakers, as well as Earthing’s Sedona and Groundz’s BIOS sneaker lines, employ such multi-layer conductive systems.
Another less common method of grounding sneakers, which Groundz employs in their COPPERS line, is utilization of a copper rivet which penetrates all sole layers to pass ground energy into the feet. As it is very conductive (in our experience), this technology is used in many grounding sandals as well as other grounding shoe styles. It is also the DIY method many people use to transform regular shoes into grounding shoes. Note: we have not personally tried this DIY grounding shoe method on any of our shoes.
Can I wear socks with grounding sneakers?
Yes, though with shoes and other grounding devices, we recommend making direct skin contact when possible. While socks made of natural fibers like cotton and wool won’t block Earth energy, you need to sweat in them for optimal conductivity.
Grounding socks, which are woven with conductive elements like silver, are a good solution if your feet don’t sweat much. We certainly wear them on colder days with grounding shoes and recommend those made by TRU47 and Harmony 783, as well as Earthing socks.
What does “barefoot design” mean?
Some grounding sneakers (like Groundz BIOS and COPPERS, as well as Bahé Revives) are barefoot style, meaning that they are designed in a way that mimics the experience of being barefoot. Barefoot, or minimalist, style shoes usually have thinner, more flexible soles that are flat / zero-drop to increase ground feel and facilitate natural movement while potentially strengthening the feet. “Zero-drop” means there’s no difference in elevation between the toe and heel – that is, there’s no arch support. Most barefoot style shoes also have a wider toe box to allow for splaying of the toes. In our experience, barefoot design sneakers also tend to weigh less than regular shoes.
Numerous other grounding shoes are also barefoot design, such as Earth Runners sandals, Bahé hiking boots and sandals. All slip-ons, sandals and boots made by grounding shoe brands Groundz, Softstar and Raum are also barefoot, or minimalist, style.
Are all grounding sneakers barefoot design?
No. All Harmony 783 grounding sneakers shown on this page are traditional fit with medium arch support, as are Bahé Recharge performance grounded running shoes.
Are all barefoot design sneakers also grounding sneakers?
No, and we’ve noticed marketing of some barefoot design shoes that could potentially confuse consumers into thinking the shoes will ground them when they won’t. It’s super important to read product descriptions carefully when shopping for grounding sneakers.
Rest assured, all barefoot design shoes we recommend at Grounded.com are also grounding shoes.
If you’re shopping a barefoot design brand we don’t recommend here and are unsure as to whether its shoes will ground you, look for specific descriptions of the grounding technology on product pages or elsewhere on the website; don’t settle for vague or merely suggestive phrasing. Feel free to also email march@grounded.com, and we’ll check it out for you.
